Since 31 March 2024, Romania has been part of the Schengen Area, which means air and sea border controls have been lifted and Romanian short-stay visas are now Schengen visas allowing travel within the area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. To enter, you need a valid travel document, proof of purpose and sufficient means, and you must not be flagged in the Schengen Information System. Long-stay visas are available for employment, professional activities, business, studies and family reunification.
