A Brief History of Sibiu

Sibiu’s story begins in the 12th century with the arrival of Saxon settlers, who built the fortified town known as Hermannstadt. Over time, it grew into an important trading and cultural centre in Transylvania.

The city’s historic upper and lower towns, connected by cobbled streets, reflect centuries of architectural influence, from Gothic churches to elegant Baroque facades.
